One of the best Backpackers in South Africa since 1999. Surfing, Yoga and plenty more to offer on the banana coast of Southern KZN in the Subtropical jungle of Umzumbe.  

Get lost in a private jungle not even a 5-minute walk from the blue flag beach in Umzumbe. Welcome to Mantis & Moon. Experience the warm welcome of the staff family. Our friendly dynamic, local and international volunteers can’t wait to meet you! We too are travellers, nomads, adventurists, dudes and dudettes who love the sun. By day, you might see us surfing, painting, expand our knowledge, fix and build or cook up a big delicious meal. By night, we sip tea, juice or beer next to the exotic rock pool, while global story tellers share their adventures, lessons and tales of our own lives with people like you.

We offer venue hire services and can help you plan the perfect celebration or get-together. We cater for weddings, team building, yoga teacher trainings, retreats and birthdays. Although we love to have a great time, we DO NOT allow bachelor parties.

Here at Mantis and Moon we’re always excited about having new volunteers into our home. Help out with maintenance, carpentry, admin work, media and arts & crafts. As a volunteer you get accommodation in return for your services, you get to live in a dorm with maximum 3 other people. You are certain to experience all of the perks that come with the ‘job’ like, our sunset trips, hiking and ocean tours, the best of all, making some amazing friends!
